The Boston area is packed with events celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month.
The big picture: Hispanic Heritage Month, which started Tuesday and runs through Oct. 15, commemorates Latino and Hispanic history nationwide.
- The month coincides with independence days of eight countries: Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Mexico, Chile and Belize.
Thursday, 9/17
🎶 The Museum of Fine Arts hosts Latinx Heritage Night during $5 Third Thursdays, 5-10pm.
- Includes a Puerto Rican bracelet-making station, poetry, a bilingual art tour, music and an unveiling of the ALX100 pyramid. (Note: Steph was named to the 2026 ALX100.)
Friday, 9/18
📖 The Boston Public Library hosts a storytime series with local folk artist Laura Macias at the Adams Street library, 10:30-11:30am.
- Macias will also lead storytimes at the North End, Connolly, Grove Hall, West End, Charlestown, South Boston, Roslindale, West Roxbury, Mattapan, Shaw-Roxbury and Parker Hill branches.
Saturday, 9/19
🇲🇽 Viva México Boston 2026: The Verónica Robles Cultural Center and Consulate General of Mexico in Boston host a parade and festival to celebrate Mexican Independence Day, which was on Wednesday.
- Parade: Meets at 12:45pm at the VROCC parking lot (255 Border St.)
- Festival: 1-8pm, 102 Border St.
- Price: Free if you register in advance; $5 for walk-ins.
🇲🇽 Sombreros and Boots returns to 51 Nightclub to celebrate Mexican Independence Day with a mariachi band, food trucks and a DJ, 3-9pm.
- Price: $33.99 for last-call tickets. 21+.
🇨🇴 Tall Ship Boston hosts a benefits festival for Colombia, which was hit with a 7.3-magnitude earthquake last month, 2-8pm.
- Price: $20 for adults, $10 for kids. Free entry for kids under 5.
🎅🏼 Mixx 360 Nightlife hosts the Simulacra Decembrino for Latinos who start celebrating the holidays three months out.
Thursday, 9/24
🎶 Rosalba Solis, founder of the Latin American cultural nonprofit La Piñata, will host a Meso-American/Aztec music and dance workshop for children ages 7-11 at the BPL in Copley Square, 3:30-4:30pm.
- Solis will host another workshop at the East Boston branch the following week.
Saturday, 9/26
🎉 Somerville celebrates Latin American and Caribbean heritage at Somerville High School with food, music and samba lessons, 2-5pm.
🫦 The Full Body Cast celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month with a bilingual reenactment of "The Rocky Horror Picture Show," featuring an all-Latiné cast, 9:30pm.

Friday, 10/2
🎻 Boston Landmarks Orchestra performs alongside the Chelsea High School Orchestra in a free concert, 7-8:30pm.
Saturday, 10/3
🛍️ The Hustle List hosts a mob crawl in Hyde Park for Hispanic-owned businesses, 12-4pm.
🇵🇷 The BPL hosts Bad Bunny bingo in the North End, 3-4pm.
- Free, but registration required.
Saturday, 10/10
🇸🇻 The Veronica Robles Cultural Center hosts the Viva El Salvador Festival, 5:30-9pm.
- Free, but registration encouraged.
