The last Boloco will close in September

The last Boloco will close in two months, ending the Boston-bred burrito seller's 29-year run.

Why it matters: Boloco fed generations of Bostonians and college students their signature buffalo chicken burritos and Nutella milkshakes (including to yours truly).

Catch up quick: The burrito chain that was born as an eatery across from Berklee College of Music had nearly two dozen locations at its peak.

Boloco gained a cult following into the 2010s — and popularity among progressives for paying its employees above minimum wage — but the business started shrinking over the past decade.
The pandemic accelerated its decline, leaving just one Boston location by 2025.

Driving the news: The last restaurant, located on 50 Congress St., will close on Sept. 25, the company posted on Facebook.

What they're saying: "It's been a hell of a ride," the company posted on Facebook, saying the building has been sold, and their lease isn't being renewed.

"Every day until then — open or closed — you can expect any number of not-so-clever reasons to come back one more time… a story you can't make up, an old favorite makes a final appearance, free burrito day and special requests."

💭 Steph's thought bubble: I don't have the stomach for the Nutella milkshake these days, but I'll have to stop by for one last burrito.
