Substation trading cards highlight Boston history

The intrigue: The five-card pack puts snippets of local history in your pocket.

• The Substation started selling them earlier this year for $10 a pack.

Fun fact: One of the cards tells the story of the failure of an Ontario power station plunged Canada and 11 U.S. states into darkness in 1965.

• "Boston was dark except for the string of lights on the MBTA's lines," the card states, noting that the South Station power station, run by the MBTA, wasn't integrated with Edison's modern system.
