Explaining the T's anti-icing trains

Anti-icing systems mounted down the sides of the cars spray a layer of a glycol product on the third rail as it passes to prevent ice from forming.

• The pumps and tanks are inside the cars, which is why they're closed to passengers.
• The system runs at intervals during times the T expects ice could freeze up the rails.
