Milford teen leaves State of the Union early after DHS post

• Gomes da Silva, born in Brazil, arrived in Milford at age 6 on a visa, which has since expired.

Driving the news: Gomes da Silva was in the House chamber as a guest of U.S. Rep. Seth Moulton when the Department of Homeland Security mentioned him by name on X.

• "Today, some Democrats in Congress are planning to bring illegal aliens as guests to the State of the Union. Once again, they are putting illegal aliens above the safety of American citizens," DHS wrote.
• Gomes da Silva "is an illegal alien who has no right to be in our nation. We are committed to enforcing the law and fighting for the arrest, detention, and removal of aliens like him."
• Moulton's staff escorted Gomes da Silva out of the chamber after seeing the post, per the Boston Globe.

What they're saying: "I can't believe they still want to chase after me," Gomes da Silva told the Globe.

• "I'm just disappointed in the ignorance. It's really inhumane, and there's a lack of empathy."

Gomes da Silva watched the rest of President Trump's speech in Moulton's office.

• Gomes da Silva has since applied for asylum.
