Where Boston-area SNAP recipients can get free pet food

Add pet food to the list of items needed for Massachusetts residents on SNAP.

Why it matters: The SNAP disruptions not only put more than 1.1 million Massachusetts residents at risk of going hungry, but also prevent them from feeding their dogs and cats at home.

Driving the news: The MSPCA is running a free public food pantry 11am-1pm Friday at its Jamaica Plain headquarters.

The MSCPA is planning food pantries at Nevis Farm in Methuen on Thursday and its Barnstable location on Nov. 29.
The organization asked the public to donate pet food to help it meet unprecedented demand.

Zoom out: The MSPCA is one of several Massachusetts organizations distributing pet food to residents in need.

Heal the Hood, a store offering free items in Jamaica Plain, is also collecting pet food alongside bags of rice, canned goods and menstrual items.
The Gifford Cat Shelter in Brighton, which runs a pet food pantry, takes appointments for pet owners in need via email or phone.
Rescue Allies in Somerville also runs a pet food pantry. People can submit their requests through the form.
