Josh Kraft suspends Boston mayoral campaign

Driving the news: Kraft told WCVB in an interview that his decision came after conversations with his team, volunteers, family members and advisers after Tuesday.

What they're saying: "I got into this to make an impact, as I've done my whole life, build a sense of community to make change for the greater good," Kraft said.

• "When I kept looking at the next eight weeks, the negativity, and all that it was going to be about. I realized, wow, I can do more. I can make a better impact for the residents of the city of Boston."

Wu said in a statement that she respects Kraft's decision and thanks him "for caring about our city deeply enough to want to make it better."

Between the lines: Kraft's decision ends a campaign that never fully took off, despite him pouring millions of his own money into it.

• That includes some $3.5 million of personal funds he added in August, Bloomberg reported.

What's next: Kraft said he plans to donate some $3 million in campaign funds to organizations focused on homelessness and substance use disorder in the "Mass. and Cass" area.
