Massachusetts has one of the highest gender pay gaps in the country.
Why it matters: Women continue to be over-represented in lower-paying professions, and "family caregiving responsibilities bring different pressures for working women and men," according to the Pew Research Center.
By the numbers: The median earnings in Massachusetts were $62,907 for men and $47,287 for women in 2023.
For full-time workers, the gap was similarly wide: $82,386 for men and $70,792 for women.
The research did not account for nonbinary or genderqueer people's median earnings.
