JFK, Tip O'Neill federal buildings in Boston listed for sale

The federal government listed 16 federal buildings for sale across New England, including two in Boston.
Why it matters: The Trump administration says selling "vacant or underutilized" space will free up tax dollars, but workers and local officials say it's President Trump and billionaire Elon Musk's latest effort to gut federal agencies.
State of play: Hundreds of federal buildings across the nation made the U.S. General Services Administration's non-core property list published this week, including federal courthouses, IRS offices and childcare centers.
Zoom in: The Trump administration listed the John F. Kennedy Federal Building and the Tip O'Neill Federal Building in downtown Boston, the Boston Business Journal first reported.
- Also on the list: the Volpe Center, a new 13-story office building developed by MIT. MIT built the offices for the U.S. Department of Transportation and other federal lessees, per the BBJ.
These are the other buildings listed by state:
Connecticut
- A Social Security Administration building in Torrington
- The William R. Cotter Federal Building in Hartford, which houses several agencies.
Massachusetts
- The Frederick C. Murphy Federal Building in Waltham, a National Archives facility
- The IRS Service Center in Andover
- The Philip J. Philbin Federal Building, which houses a U.S. Postal Service facility, as well as SSA offices and a Veteran Affairs clinic
- The Silvio O. Conte Federal Building in Pittsfield, which houses SSA and U.S. Department of Agriculture offices
- The U.S. Custom House in New Bedford, which houses the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and Customs and Border Protection.
Maine
- The Edmund S. Muskie Federal Building in Augusta, which houses multiple agencies
- An unnamed parking facility in Portland
- The SSA office in Presque Isle
- The U.S. Custom House in Portland, which houses several agencies.
New Hampshire
- The SSA office in Littleton.
The list didn't include any buildings in Rhode Island.
