Massport wants a bigger cut from your Uber ride to Logan

By the numbers: Under the Massachusetts Port Authority proposal, ride-app fees would go up from the $3.25 charge set in 2019 to $5.50 in 2026, then up to $7.50 in 2028.

• Nearly 30% of the more than 43 million passengers that passed through Logan last year used ride-app services like Uber and Lyft.
• The agency says it'll use revenue to improve ground infrastructure as Logan attracts more passengers.

The other side: Ride-app companies looking to keep costs down for customers aren't happy.

• Uber executive Josh Gold criticized the agency for wanting to raise fees while prohibiting drivers from directly pulling up to gate entrances, which many other airports allow.
• "Taxport...I mean Massport, however, proposes charging riders and drivers the highest taxes in the world while offering them the fewest services," Gold wrote to the Massport board this week.

A new $15 fee for cruise passengers has already been approved to start by 2030.

• Proceeds would fund $105 million in infrastructure improvements like new electrical connections.
