Patriots owner's son launches campaign for Boston mayor

Why it matters: Kraft is the first major challenger to Wu. He's a political newcomer with deep philanthropic ties in Boston's communities of color — and has even deeper pockets, thanks to his billionaire dad.

Kraft said Wu is "0-3" on delivering some of her major campaign promises: free MBTA rides, rent control and improving schools.

• He said housing production has "ground to a dead halt" under her Wu and criticized city spending.
• And there was red meat for moderate Boston voters: Kraft said he'd put an immediate pause on Wu's bike lane expansion.

The intrigue: Kraft, a Democrat, got out ahead of criticism that his family is too close to President Trump, calling Trump "unfit to be president."
