House committee targets Boston in sanctuary city probe

Driving the news: The House Oversight and Government Reform Committee announced Monday an investigation into sanctuary city policies and how they impact public safety and federal immigration enforcement, per an announcement from U.S. Rep. James Comer, the chair.

• The committee sent letters to Wu, as well as the mayors of Chicago, Denver and New York City requesting documents and communications regarding their policies.
• The letters also asks the mayors to testify at an upcoming hearing on Feb. 11.

What they're saying: "These jurisdictions take it upon themselves to decide what laws they will and will not abide by all for the purpose of shielding removable aliens, especially criminals, from federal law enforcement," Comer said in a statement.

Between the lines: Wu again finds herself a target in the political immigration fight, months after she and Trump's border czar publicly sparred.

• Wu told GBH News she wouldn't help federal immigration agents deport undocumented immigrants unless criminal warrants are issued, to which Thomas Homan replied, "Either she helps us or she gets the hell out of the way."

A Wu spokesperson said her office is reviewing the letter.
