To say commuting in Boston takes patience is an understatement.
New data from Lyft shows the only city worse off is New York City.
The intrigue: The data backs up Bostonians’ frustrations, but it also highlights how walkable or car-friendly certain cities are.
State of play: The ride share service recorded Boston’s average speed as 14.6 miles per hour during commuting hours, below Philadelphia, San Francisco and Washington, D.C.
What they’re saying: “On a Saturday night, it might take you 20 minutes to get home, but on a Friday afternoon, it might take you six times as long,” Eric Bourassa, director of transportation at Boston’s Metropolitan Area Planning Council, told Lyft’s researchers.
"People feel that.”
Yes, but: It also ranked Boston as one of the most walkable cities of those analyzed.
13% of commuters walk to work, compared to 3% of U.S. commuters.
The city also has one of the largest populations who don’t drive, along with NYC and SF.
