Possible food contamination and a nationwide recall of Boar's Head products has closed multiple grocery store delis around Massachusetts and 12 other states.
Why it matters: The Food Safety and Inspection Service said Tuesday that around 7 million pounds of Boar's Head ready-to-eat meat and poultry products were being recalled.
Inspectors in Maryland found a sample of liverwurst contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes that may also be found in 71 products, some pre-packaged and some meat for slicing at the deli counter.
Deli sections of grocers like Stop & Shop in Dorchester were covered in plastic while "closed" signs at the counter explained the recall and safety precautions.
