The Holocaust Memorial Museum of San Antonio, the Central Texas regional office of the Anti-Defamation League and Shalom Austin will bring a traveling Holocaust education exhibit to Austin today and tomorrow.
What's happening: The Cattle Car Exhibit, operated by nonprofit Hate Ends Now, will be located on the Dell Jewish Community Campus.
- The traveling exhibit was displayed in San Antonio earlier this month and concludes in several South Texas cities from Feb. 12-20.
Zoom in: The immersive, 360-degree video exhibit takes viewers inside a replica of a cattle car used to transport Jewish people and other targeted groups to concentration camps during World War II.
- The exhibit, which is recommended for ages 12 and up, progresses through history and reminds visitors to stand up against ignorance and hate, according to organizers.
Between the lines: Antisemitic incidents in the U.S. have more than tripled in the three months following the Oct. 7 Hamas attack in Israel, according to Anti-Defamation League (ADL) preliminary data.
- Anti-Muslim hate crimes, which also saw significant spikes in the fall in larger cities, could also exceed the number of reported incidents in recent years.
Of note: Unlike San Antonio, Houston and Dallas, the city of Austin does not have a Holocaust Museum.
If you go: Register online for a free tour between 10am-4pm each day.
