XCharge, an electric vehicle charging manufacturer, opened its Kyle facility today and unveiled a new battery-integrated electric vehicle charger.
Why it matters: Central Texas is home to a growing number of electric vehicle manufacturers, and the region has become ground zero for new drivers of the technology.
- The facility also adds more high tech jobs to fast-growing Hays County.
Driving the news: XCharge North America will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony this morning with local officials, and launch its Net Zero Series charger.
- The new charger from XCharge is a "Level 3" charger or "DC fast charger," which can replenish an EV battery in an hour or less.
Zoom in: XCharge North America officials say the company's presence in Kyle will boost the availability of EV charging stations in the area and create more job opportunities.
- There are currently 20 public-access charging stations in the Kyle and San Marcos area.
Flashback: XCharge North America, a subsidiary of Germany-based XCharge Technology, selected Hays County as the site of its 3,500-square-foot hub in August.
- The plant is located in Kyle's Business Center at Plum Creek at 19121 Marketplace Ave., and XCharge plans to expand it to roughly 20,000 square feet in coming years.
