Houthis join the Iran war, launch missile at Israel

The Houthi rebels in Yemen launched a ballistic missile at Israel on Saturday morning local time.

Why it matters: This was the first attack by the Houthis since the war in Gaza ended last October. The attack signals the Iranian proxy group is joining the war between the U.S. and Israel and Iran after several weeks of sitting on the sidelines.

While the Houthis started attacking Israel, they have yet to use their "nuclear option" of closing the strait of Bab al-Mandeb in the Red Sea.
Doing that would dramatically increase the global economic crisis that has been created due to the war with Iran.

Several hours later, they launched a missile at Israel. The IDF said it intercepted the Houthi missile.

What they are saying: After the Houthi attack, the group's military spokesperson Yahya Saree said in a statement that it was conducted in support of Iran and the "resistance fronts" in Lebanon, Iraq, and the Palestinian territories.

He said the Houthis launched the missile toward "sensitive military targets" in southern Israel in response to Israeli attacks on infrastructure targets in Iran.
He added that attacks will continue until the war against Iran ends.
