These 17 Republicans voted with Democrats to pass House ACA bill

Seventeen Republicans voted with every Democrat to pass a bill to extend enhanced Affordable Care Act subsidies for three years.

Why it matters: They acted in rare defiance of President Trump and GOP leaders to pass the measure on a key health care affordability issue ahead of November's midterm elections, piling pressure on the Senate to reach a bipartisan deal.

Zoom in: Republicans voting with Democrats on the bill included Reps. Robert Bresnahan (Penn.), Mike Carey (Ohio), Monica De La Cruz (Texas), Brian Fitzpatrick (Pa.), Andrew Garbarino (N.Y.), Jeff Hurd (Colo.) and Dave Joyce (Ohio).

Reps. Tom Kean (N.J.), Nick LaLota (N.Y.), Mike Lawler (N.Y.), Ryan Mackenzie (Pa.), Max Miller (Ohio), Zach Nunn (Iowa), María Elvira Salazar, David Valadao (Calif.), Derrick Van Orden (Wisc.) and Rob Wittman (Va.) also voted for the measure.

What they're saying: "Healthcare affordability is not a political issue; it is a governing responsibility," Lawler said in a statement posted to X Thursday evening.

He said his vote "is not an endorsement of a clean 3-year extension, but rather a commitment to a bipartisan solution" and he looked forward to "working with and voting on a Senate-amended bipartisan compromise in the weeks ahead."
