Justice Jackson denounces "relentless attacks" on judges after Trump comments

Context: Trump and his allies have accused judges of hindering his sweeping policies and have accused some of being "crooked." They've ignored some rulings that went against them.

• After Trump said last month the federal judge who ordered flights deporting suspected Venezuelan gang members to turn around should be impeached, U.S. Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts issued a rare statement saying impeaching members of the judiciary was "not an appropriate response" to disagreeing with their rulings.

Zoom in: "The attacks are not random," Jackson said before the gathering of federal judges and lawyers at the First Circuit Judicial Conference, according to Bloomberg.

• "They seem designed to intimidate those of us who serve in this critical capacity," said the Biden-appointed Jackson, who did not name Trump during her comments, per multiple reports. "The attacks are also not isolated incidents.

• "That is, they impact more than just individual judges who are being targeted. Rather, the threats and harassment are attacks on our democracy, on our system of government."
• Representatives for the White House did not immediately respond to Axios' request for comment on Thursday evening.
