Trump's legal fight with X is officially over

President Trump voluntarily dismissed his legal battle with X regarding the social media platform's permanent suspension of the president's account following the Capitol riot on Jan. 6, 2021.

Why it matters: X, which Elon Musk primarily owns but was then the publicly-traded Twitter, banned Trump for what it described at the time as a "risk of further incitement of violence."

Shortly after his recent inauguration, Trump pardoned about 1,500 Jan. 6 criminals and defendants, including those convicted of assaulting police officers.

Driving the news: Each side in the X legal battle agreed to "bear its own costs and fees" in a three-page motion to dismiss filed in the Ninth Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals and dated Friday.

There were few other specifics detailed in the agreement.

Musk reinstated Trump's account on X after the billionaire assumed control of the platform in November 2022.
Meta said the July before the presidential election it would soon reverse restrictions it placed on Trump's Instagram and Facebook accounts.

Neither X nor White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt has immediately responded to Axios' request for comment.
