DOGE access to Treasury data again limited

Driving the news: The Saturday order responded to a suit from 19 Democratic attorneys general arguing the DOGE, tasked with cutting federal spending, "is attempting to access government data to support initiatives to block federal funds from reaching certain disfavored beneficiaries."

• "For instance, as the President prepares to attempt to shut down the Department of Education, DOGE has been accessing student financial records."
• Obama-appointee U.S. District Judge Paul Engelmayer for Manhattan, wrote in the order: "The Court's firm assessment is that, for the reasons stated by the States, they will face irreparable harm in the absence of injunctive relief."

Catch up quick: U.S. District Judge Carl Nichols for D.C., a Trump-appointee, temporarily blocked the Trump administration on Friday from putting some 2,200 employees of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) on administrative leave.

• Attorneys allege in the suit that the administration's actions have caused a humanitarian catastrophe.
• A day earlier, U.S. District Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly also signed an order restricting the DOGE from accessing sensitive Treasury payment system information.

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt has not immediately responded to Axios' request for comment.
