President-elect Trump's inauguration will take place inside the U.S. Capitol Rotunda Monday, the first time in 40 years it won't be held outdoors due to weather.
Why it matters: Switching the inaugural ceremony inside means there won't be comparisons of crowd size to past inauguration ceremonies.
- The move means many lawmakers and donors will likely be unable to attend because it's an extremely limited space.
What time does the inauguration start?
Inaugural ceremonies will begin at 11:30am ET, and the swearing-in ceremony will begin at noon, with Vice President-elect Vance going first and Trump to follow.
When does Trump become president, take oath of office?
Between the lines: The 20th Amendment to the Constitution states that the term of each elected president begins at noon on Jan. 20 of the year following the election.
