Blue Origin scraps debut launch of New Glenn rocket

• The 320-foot rocket — named for John Glenn, the first American to orbit Earth — was poised to become Blue Origin's first vehicle sent into orbit.
• Blue Origin cited "a vehicle subsystem issue" that it needed more time to address. The company gave no indication of when the next launch attempt would be scheduled.

Driving the news: The test flight had already been pushed back due to rough seas that could have complicated landing the rocket's booster.

• The launch window was originally set to open at 1am Monday ET from the Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida.
• The rocket was also meant to carry the Blue Ring Pathfinder, which can maneuver to multiple orbits and locations and host and deploy payloads.

Zoom out: Blue Origin has said the New Glenn's flights will produce significantly less waste and costs than other rockets due in part to its reusable first stage.

• Bezos' vision for his company's legacy is to preserve the planet by one day moving polluting industries into the stars.

What we're watching: SpaceX is also targeting Monday for a launch of its Falcon 9 craft from Cape Canaveral.
