Reports: Juan Soto agrees to record $765M deal with Mets

Juan Soto has agreed to move to the New York Mets from the N.Y. Yankees in a 15-year $765 million deal, MLB.com and other news outlets reported Sunday.

Why it matters: The deal that ESPN also reports includes "no deferred money" and an opt-out clause after five years would surpass the $700 million MLB contract record set by Shohei Ohtani over 10 years with the Los Angeles Dodgers.

State of play: Soto became a free agent after the Yankees lost the World Series in October.

The Yankees offered the 26-year-old star outfielder $760 million over 16 years, according to the New York Post and other outlets.
But Soto went with the Mets' historic offer, which MLB.com's Mark Feinsand reports incudes a $75 million signing bonus.
