The restored Notre Dame cathedral was unveiled Friday, five years after the catastrophic fire that shuttered it.
The big picture: About 15 million visitors are expected to flock to the religious and tourist icon yearly following the ambitious renovation.
- French President Emmanuel Macron, who spoke at the unveiling, had promised that the cathedral would reopen within five years.
State of play: The cathedral will officially reopen on Dec. 7 and 8 with invitation-only and televised ceremonies.
- Events celebrating the cathedral's reopening will continue until Pentecost on June 8.
By the numbers: Approximately 340,000 donors contributed nearly $900 million to fund the restoration, per the Washington Post.
