Just 13% of voters up for grabs ahead of presidential election

The big picture: According to the poll, 82% of voters are already certain about which candidate they will vote for, with 42% saying they will support Harris and 40% indicating they will support Trump.

• 5% of voters say they will vote for a third-party candidate.
• That leaves 13% who are uncertain about which candidate they will vote for.

Zoom in: Among that 13% of voters, 8% say they have a preference for one of the candidates but could still change their minds — with the group being evenly split between support for Harris (4%) and Trump (4%).

• The other 5% of the undecided group say they only lean towards one of the two main party candidates — 3% lean towards Harris and 2% lean Trump.

State of play: Both Trump and Harris have expended considerable energy trying to win over undecided voters.

• Much of Trump's strategy this summer — including editing the GOP platform — has been geared towards persuading undecided or unsure voters to support him.
• Harris rolled out a new policy proposal earlier this week targeting the "sandwich generation" of Americans caring for elders and children — a group that contains a high proportion of undecided voters.
