Melania Trump says Democrats, media fostered threats against her husband

• Asked by "Fox & Friends" co-host Ainsley Earhardt how she felt about her husband running for president again, the former first lady said she supports him and added, "I know how passionate he is to make America great again."

Zoom in: Speaking about the two assassination attempts against her husband, Melania Trump said, "I think something was watching over him. It's almost like [the] country really needs him."

• "It's interesting how quiet ... everything became, all of the mainstream media," she said of the July 13 attempt. She said the media reported about the first assassination attempt for a few days, and "everything then became quiet."

The former first lady assigned blame to Democrats and the media.

• "Is it really shocking that all this egregious violence goes against my husband, especially that we hear the leaders from the opposition party and mainstream media branding him as a threat to democracy, calling him vile names," she said.
• "They [are] only fueling a toxic atmosphere and giving power [to] all of these people that they want to do harm to him."

Zoom out: Melania Trump's first memoir, which was the backdrop for the interview, is set to be released on October 8.

• "I believe that it was time that I tell my story and the truth," she said in the interview. "It is a lot of misinformation and falsehoods written about me, and I want to put the record straight."
