RFK Jr. says he's been tapped for Trump's transition team

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. told Tucker Carlson during an interview that aired Monday that he was asked to join former President Trump's presidential transition team, and he's "looking forward to that."

Why it matters: Kennedy, who on Friday suspended his campaign and endorsed Trump, told Carlson that he would help "pick the people who will be running the government" during a second Trump term.

"Kennedy added that he is going to "work to get Trump elected."

State of play: Trump had already tapped two of his biggest donors, Linda McMahon and Howard Lutnick, to be the co-chairs of his transition team.

Trump's two elder sons, Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump, are serving as honorary chairs of the transition team, where they're expected to help
vet possible Trump hires for loyalty.
A spokesperson for the Trump campaign did not immediately respond to Axios' request for comment on Kennedy's remarks to Carlson.

Zoom out: Kennedy said during his Friday announcement when he suspended his campaign that staying in the race in key swing states could hurt Trump in November.

Polling after Vice President Kamala Harris entered the race showed that Kennedy might have pulled more voters from Trump in November if he stayed in the race.
