Driving the news: McMahon served as the head of the Small Business Association during Trump's presidency. She's given about $16 million to Trump's political action committees during his campaigns, per Forbes.

• Lutnick is CEO of the financial firm Cantor Fitzgerald. He held a fundraiser for the former president at his Hamptons residence earlier this month that brought in $15 million.

What he's saying: "We will restore strength, competence and common sense to the Oval Office," Trump said in a statement announcing his transition team.

• "I have absolute confidence the Trump-Vance Administration will be ready to govern effectively on Day One."

State of play: It's typical for a presidential candidate to select a transition team before Election Day, but this is later than usual as most campaigns begin their transition planning in the spring, per the New York Times.

• The former president's sons are expected to take a key role in planning for a second Trump administration by ensuring that government jobs are filled by Republicans with his vision.

• Trump Jr. said in an Axios event during the Republican National Convention last month that he wants "veto power" over presidential transition hiring decisions.
• "I don't want to pick a single person for a position of power, all I want to do is block the guys that would be a disaster," he told Axios' Mike Allen.
