Exclusive: Trump Jr. wants “veto” over Trump presidential transition hiring

Donald Trump Jr. told Axios' Mike Allen on Tuesday that he wants "veto power" over presidential transition hiring decisions if his father wins a second term in November.

Why it matters: Trump Jr. has said that he would not want an administration role, but instead wants to "block the bad actors."

"I don't want to pick a single person for a position of power, all I want to do is block the guys that would be a disaster," he said during an Axios House event at the Republican National Convention.
"I want to block the liars, I want to block the guys that are pretending they're with you," he said.
"You guys pick the guy that's right, I want a veto power to cut out each and every one of those people," he said, adding that an "advantage" of a second Trump term is that "now we know" who possible administration officials are.

State of play: Trump Jr. has already exerted his behind-the-scenes sway to advocate for Republicans that he backs.

Trump Jr. personally vouched for Ohio Sen. J.D. Vance (R) to be Trump's running mate.
