Democrats torch Trump ahead of Harris' big moment at the DNC

Vice President Kamala Harris will call tonight to move beyond the "bitterness, cynicism, and divisive battles" of the past.

Before she takes the stage, Democrats will have spent most of the night torching former President Trump.

Why it matters: The next few hours will give us a real-time window into the contrast the campaigns set up with their conventions.

Trump — who spent the day warning about illegal immigration as he visited a stretch of wall on the Mexican border — says he'll tap out live commentary on Harris' big night on his Truth Social platform.

When he logs on, he'll have a load of source material:

"Forty-five wanted us un-alive," said New York City Councilman Yusef Salaam, who was one of the "Central Park Five," a group of Black and Latino men wrongly convicted of rape in 1989. Trump took out ads after the attack calling for the reinstatement of the death penalty.
"He wanted us dead," Salaam said tonight.

Rep. Pat Ryan (D-N.Y.), a West Point graduate who said Trump is "a serial liar, cheater, thief who looked soldiers in the eye, then turned around and called fallen heroes 'suckers' and 'losers.'"
