Judge rejects Hunter Biden's request to dismiss tax case using Trump ruling

Driving the news: Hunter Biden filed a bid in July to dismiss both his tax and gun charges cases by citing a ruling in former President Trump's federal classified documents case.

• In the Trump case, Judge Aileen Cannon dismissed the former president's federal indictment by citing the unconstitutional appointment of the special counsel investigating the case. The Justice Department is appealing the ruling.
• Biden's legal team argued that special counsel David Weiss, who lead the probes in both his cases, was likewise unconstitutionally appointed.

What he's saying: The judge rejected the president's son's request, noting that he was asking the court to reconsider issues that it had already settled regarding Weiss' appointment, per AP.

• "The court declines to reach the merits of the motion because there is no valid basis for reconsideration of the court's order denying Mr. Biden's motion to dismiss," Scarsi wrote, Reuters reported.
