Biden interview with CBS News' Robert Costa airs Sunday

President Biden's first interview since announcing he was dropping out of the presidential race and endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris airs Sunday morning on CBS News.

Why it matters: Biden explains why he exited the race in the interview with CBS News chief election and campaign correspondent Robert Costa.

Costa, who is co-author of the book "Peril" with Bob Woodward, said on X that in the rare interview Biden reflects "on the stakes of an election, on democracy, and on his family from inside the White House residence."
Biden said he's "not confident at all" that a peaceful transfer of power will take place if former President Trump loses the election.

Flashback: Biden addressed the nation in an Oval Office address on July 24, days after announcing he would not seek re-election on July 21.

Biden had interviews with ABC News' George Stephanopoulos and NBC's Lester Holt following the late June presidential debate where his performance put pressure on him to withdraw.

The big picture: The interview will be broadcast on CBS News Sunday Morning, which starts at 9am ET and goes through 10:30am, the network said.
