The Republican National Convention kicked off Monday in Milwaukee with former President Trump announcing Sen. J.D. Vance (R-Ohio) as his running mate.
Why it matters: The convention comes two days after Trump survived an assassination attempt at a Pennsylvania rally.
- Trump said in a post on Truth Social Sunday that he could not allow a "shooter" to force a change "to scheduling or anything else."
- He also said the shooting at his rally Saturday prompted him to rewrite his convention speech so it focuses on bringing the nation together.
