All eyes will be on President Biden as he holds a rare solo news conference Thursday evening, two weeks after the presidential debate and six days after his ABC News interview.
Why it matters: The stakes are high for Biden as calls grow for him to step aside as the Democratic nominee. He has insisted he will remain in the race.
- 67% of voters — including a majority of Democrats — said he should step aside in an ABC News/Washington Post/Ipsos poll published Thursday.
- Axios is posting live updates during the press conference here.
What time is the Biden press conference today?
The big picture: Biden's press conference is scheduled to start at 6:30pm ET Thursday at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, D.C.
- The Associated Press reports Biden is scheduled to take questions from the White House press corps "no earlier than 7 p.m. ET Thursday" and said it could "begin even later than 7 p.m., depending on how events at NATO move along."
- The time was originally set for 5:30pm but the time was pushed back by an hour.
Biden's last solo press conference
Reality check: Biden has given fewer press conferences and media interviews than any of the last seven presidents at this point in their terms.
- Thursday's conference is the 15th time Biden has had a solo press conference, according to CNN.
- The average length of Biden's solo news conference has been about 37 minutes long, CNN said.
Flashback: Biden's last solo press conference was in November 2023 after he met Chinese President Xi Jinping in California.
