Biden to be interviewed by NBC's Lester Holt on Monday

President Biden will sit for an interview with "NBC Nightly News" anchor Lester Holt on Monday, the network announced Wednesday.

Why it matters: Biden is doing damage control as he faces pressure to withdraw from the presidential race following his lackluster performance during a debate with former President Trump last month.

Between the lines: Biden, who has given fewer press conferences and media interviews than most modern presidents, has been making more press appearances as he tries to quell concerns about his age and fitness to serve.

His first interview after the debate, with ABC News anchor George Stephanopoulos, drew 8.5 million viewers.
But his performance did little to tamp down mounting concerns from Democratic members of Congress, per Axios' Andrew Solender.

What we're watching: The full interview, which will take place in Austin, Texas, will air during a primetime special at 9 pm ET Monday on NBC.

It will also be available to stream after it airs on NBCNews.com.
