Israel says it killed Iran's intelligence minister

• He is one of several top Iranian officials assassinated by Israel since the war began in an effort to destabilize the regime.
• Iran's President Masoud Pezeshkian confirmed Khatib's killing on X.
• The Iranian regime hasn't confirmed Khatib's death.

What they are saying: The IDF said Khatib "played a significant role in directing arrests and killings of protesters and in shaping the regime's situational assessments during recent internal protests in Iran."

• The IDF also claimed Khatib was responsible for ordering attacks against Israeli and American targets.

Behind the scenes: Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz said in a statement he and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu have authorized the IDF to target any senior Iranian official once it has sufficient intelligence without requiring additional approval from political leadership.

What to watch: "Israel's policy is clear and unequivocal: no one in Iran has immunity — everyone is a target," Katz said.

• He added that "significant surprises are expected" Wednesday in Iran and against Hezbollah in Lebanon.
