President Trump has named one of his assistants and senior advisor to chief of staff Mick Mulvaney as special representative for International Telecommunications Policy, per a press release Monday.
The big picture: The White House says Robert Blair was chosen to help "promote a secure and reliable global communications system." Blair will continue to serve in his current roles.
- Blair's background includes work in defense programs at the Office of Management and Budget and serving as staff for the House Appropriations Committee.
Of note: Blair is one of the witnesses Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) called to testify in an impeachment trial against Trump.
