WaPo: Trump "promise" reported by whistleblower involves Ukraine

An alleged promise made between a foreign leader and President Trump recently reported by a whistleblower is said to involve Ukraine, 2 people familiar with the issue said, per a Washington Post report confirmed by the New York Times.

The state of play: On Aug. 12, a whistleblower filed a complaint with intelligence community inspector general Michael Atkinson, which he deemed "credible and urgent within the definition of the law." While the nature of Trump's alleged "promise" remains unclear, he spoke with newly elected Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky roughly 2 weeks before the complaint was submitted. Per the Post, that conversation is being investigated by House Democrats.

Esports network to launch New York, Los Angeles studios

Video Game Entertainment & News Network (Venn), a startup seeking to make 55 hours of esports content a week, plans to launch studios in New York and Los Angeles in mid-2020, the Los Angeles Times writes.

The big picture: The New York-based business has raised $17 million and is looking to become a gaming network, with distribution deals including Twitch, YouTube and Hulu TV. The esports category has expanded in popularity, particularly with young people, with platforms like Twitch allowing gamers to grow more connected by streaming their activities.

Nike cancels sponsorship with Antonio Brown

Nike ended its sponsorship deal with New England Patriots receiver Antonio Brown Thursday, following accusations of sexual assault against the player, per USA Today.

The big picture: Just days after his dramatic departure from the Raiders and signing a 1-year, $15 million contract with the Patriots, Brown was accused of sexual assault in a civil suit by a former trainer last week. Brown's lawyer denied the claims, and the NFL is investigating the matter. Brown remains eligible to play and made his debut with the Patriots last weekend.
