1 big thing: Scoop: Reuters top editor Greg Roumeliotis joins Brunswick Group
Longtime Reuters M&A journalist Greg Roumeliotis will depart the news agency to join Brunswick Group, Axios has learned.
- Why it matters: Roumeliotis is the latest high-profile business editor to depart journalism for a role in financial communications.
Zoom in: In June, Wall Street Journal's veteran deals editor, Dana Cimilluca joined Centerview Partners to lead communications, while Business Insider executive editor Olivia Oran joined Brunswick earlier this year. Oran previously worked with Roumeliotis at Reuters.
Catch up quick: Roumeliotis spent 17 years at Reuters, his most recent title being Corporate Finance and ESG Editor.
- But his main area of focus for more than a decade was covering private equity and M&A for the wire service and serving as both a reporter and editor for its deals team.
- His oversight included coverage of IPOs, private equity, and shareholder activism.
Details: Roumeliotis will serve as a director in Brunswick's New York office supporting M&A transactions, shareholder activism defense and IPOs, a source familiar with the hiring told Axios.
2. Exclusive: Lyft brings on Terra Carmichael to lead communications
Lyft has hired Terra Carmichael as vice president of communications, the company exclusively told Axios.
- Why it matters: Lyft CEO David Risher has earned a reputation for being a very effective communicator, and Carmichael's team will help amplify the corporate narrative to appeal to riders, drivers, investors and legislators.
Context: Carmichael previously served as CCO at StockX and held senior communications roles at Eventbrite, software company Xobni and Yahoo.
- She will report to Lyft's chief marketing officer, Brian Irving, and will serve on the executive leadership team. She will oversee corporate communications, product and brand comms, social media and editorial.
- Carmichael is succeeding Sona Iliffe-Moon, who departed Lyft for Yahoo, and Dominic Carr, who currently leads communications at Starbucks.
