More than 1,000 people spent last Saturday wandering Charlotte in hot dog suits and condiment costumes on a mission to eat as many "glizzies" as possible. To anyone passing by, it probably looked like a fever dream.

Why it matters: As Charlotte grows, so does the demand for low-pressure ways to meet people. The hot dog bar crawl proved community doesn't have to be polished or expensive. Sometimes it just takes a ridiculous idea — and a willingness to commit to the bit.

Catch up quick: The city-wide crawl began with a social media post.

• Organizer Olive, who asked to be identified only by her first name, moved to Charlotte about a year and a half ago without knowing anyone.
• Wanting to make it easier for newcomers to meet people, she floated the idea of a hot dog party on TikTok.
• Glory Days replied that if she could collect 704 signatures, it would make the party happen.

She got the signatures needed. But that was just the beginning: The idea snowballed into a hot dog bar crawl.

• 30 businesses signed on to the idea, transforming one internet joke into a citywide crawl in just under two months.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department says they have arrested a man connected to a recent assault on a woman in Dilworth after videos of it circulated on social media.

Driving the news: Di-Quan Schafar Hunt, 32, was identified by CMPD as the suspect in an active assault investigation. He was arrested around 7:30pm last night and taken to a medical facility for treatment, per CMPD.

• Hunt's custody will then go to the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office. He will be charged with assault with a deadly weapon.

Zoom in: Videos depicting apparent assaults have recently been circulating social media.

• Police say while investigating the videos, they connected one to an assault reported on July 30 on the 400 block of East Boulevard in Dilworth, which is just down from the intersection of East and South boulevards.
• In the video, the suspect appears to punch a woman as she walking down the sidewalk before ultimately "fleeing the scene," per CMPD.

Police say the woman was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

• A warrant was later obtained for Hunt's arrest after detectives identified him as the suspect.
