CMPD arrests suspect in connection with violent social media videos

Driving the news: Di-Quan Schafar Hunt, 32, was identified by CMPD as the suspect in an active assault investigation. He was arrested around 7:30pm Thursday and taken to a medical facility for treatment, per CMPD.

• Hunt's custody will then go to the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office. He will be charged with assault with a deadly weapon.

Zoom in: Videos depicting apparent assaults have recently been circulating social media.

• Police say while investigating the videos, they connected one to an assault reported on July 30 on the 400 block of East Boulevard in Dilworth, which is just down from the intersection of East and South boulevards where South End and Dilworth meet.
• In the video, the suspect appears to punch a woman as she walking down the sidewalk before ultimately "fleeing the scene," per CMPD.

Police say the woman was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

• A warrant was later obtained for Hunt's arrest after detectives identified him as the suspect.
