Stuffed Chicago-style pizza lands in D.C. on June 9 with the opening of Giordano's downtown.
Why it matters: This is the first D.C. location for the 50-year-old Chicago institution, whose stuffed pizza ranks alongside a Geno's cheesesteak or Faidley's crab cake — a city icon beloved by tourists and regulars alike.
Dig in: The 180-seat restaurant opens near the White House with a cozy bar and outdoor patio.
- Stuffed pizza is the star, but Giordano's serves multiple Chicago styles, including deep-dish, tavern-style and thin-crust pies.
- The crowd-pleasing Italian-American menu also features crispy apps (mozz sticks, calamari), chopped salads, sandwiches like Chicago-style Italian beef, and family-style platters of lasagna, Alfredo and more.
The big picture: D.C. is very much a pizza town, but it doesn't have a signature style of its own. Instead, we collect them all — from Roman squares to Detroit pies to mashups like Ethiopian-inspired pizzas.
