Trump's new Schedule F strips federal worker protections

• It's a step toward accomplishing many of the campaign promises Trump made to slash the size of the "deep state" federal government and fire "rogue bureaucrats and career politicians."

By the numbers: It could affect as many as 50,000 federal workers, Axios previously reported.

State of play: The order reclassifies certain federal workers as political appointees, targeting those whose jobs are "of a confidential, policy-determining, policy-making, or policy-advocating character."

• While it says federal workers don't have to support the president politically, "They are required to faithfully implement administration policies to the best of their ability," per the order.
• "Failure to do so is grounds for dismissal."
