Government shutdown specials have begun in D.C.

Between the lines: D.C. businesses offering deals and freebies often require federal IDs to partake (but not all).

Kraken Axes & Rage Room (Penn Quarter): If a shutdown makes you want to smash things, head to the "rage room," where government ID holders can get an extra box of breakable supplies (e.g. china plates, cups, glasses, etc.).

Whitlow's (U Street): The bar pours $8 whiskey-peach teas to sweeten the mood, and $5 beer specials as long as the shutdown lasts.

Carmine's (Penn Quarter): All-day happy hour includes $5 meatball sliders and $8 shutdown cocktails like a frozen "Here We Go Again" cosmo at the bar. It's open to all.

Scarlet Oak (Navy Yard): The Hill staffer hangout will offer 50% off all bottles of wine starting at midnight Saturday, if the government shuts down. The offer will run until it reopens.
