Disgraced former congressman-turned-Cameo star George Santos is now among the higher-charging celebrities on the video-sharing platform, asking $400 a pop for recordings.
Why it matters: The "former Congressional 'Icon!'" (his words) is poised to make more money taping happy birthday messages from his living room than he did in the House of Representatives.
Catch up fast: Oh, man, where to start? Allegations that Santos had a tenuous relationship with reality and spent campaign funds at Sephora among other places got him booted from Capitol Hill last week.
- Shortly after, Santos joined Cameo — the platform where celebrities, athletes, and C-list '90s stars sell personalized videos for a fee.
Stunning stat: Santos debuted with a $75 per video price tag, but escalated to $400 in a matter of days (credit that Taylor Swift singing voice). Semafor reports that he's on track to make more than his $174,000 congressional salary, and plans to give some of the funds to "unspecified good causes."
- Santos has recorded over 150 videos, including one commissioned by Sen. John Fetterman (D-Pa.) to troll Sen. Bob Menendez (D-N.J.) after he was accused of conspiring to act as a foreign agent to Egypt.
What they're saying: Santos "is going to be an absolute whale," Cameo founder Steven Galanis told Semafor.
By the numbers: You can get a lot — or really, very little —on Cameo for $400, including:
- Eight videos from The Naked Cowboy! Four Freddie Prinze Juniors. Three from those creepy twins in "The Shining." Two Sarah Palins and change.
- Tom Schwartz and Tom Sandoval with enough left over for a Jax Taylor. Or half the cast of "Below Deck."
- One Vanilla Ice.
Yes, but: You cannot have Mr. Big (he's $500).
The bottom line: "Obviously there's a monetary benefit — I'm not here doing it for charity," Santos tells Semafor. "But the other aspect is to remind these a--holes who think they're holier-than-thou that they will be forgotten in history and I will live forever, period."
