Timberwolves dominate list of Minnesota's highest-paid athletes

Karl-Anthony Towns has dethroned his teammate Rudy Gobert as Minnesota's highest-paid athlete.
The big picture: The Timberwolves, who are hunting for a championship fresh off a deep playoff run, are spending big bucks this year and have five of the 12 highest-paid Minnesota athletes.
Zoom out: There are now 16 Minnesota athletes making $10 million or more.
- Twins players Max Kepler and Christian Vazquez, Wild forward Kirill Kaprizov and Vikings QB Sam Darnold are making $10 million apiece and just missed this list.
State of play: There are no MLS or WNBA players among the best-compensated athletes.
- Minnesota United's top-paid player is Teemu Pukki, who is making $3.6 million this year
- Napheesa Collier, an MVP candidate for a very good Lynx team, makes $208,000.
What we're watching: With a new and much more lucrative TV contract, WNBA salaries are likely to rise soon.
