San Francisco Centre's final days are here

State of play: Ecco employee Daija Porter told Axios this week that the shoe brand's last day in the shopping mall is Monday, a last day that other news outlets have confirmed.

• San Francisco Centre's general manager also relayed to BART last week that the mall would close the remaining entrance from the Powell Station concourse level starting Jan. 15, BART spokesperson Alicia Trost told Axios via email.
• "They told us these doors will now remain locked at all times," Trost said. If the property owner wishes to reopen the entrance in the future, they will need a new BART license agreement, she said.

The big picture: San Francisco Centre foreclosed in November after its previous owners defaulted on a $600 million loan. Security guards were posted across the property Tuesday afternoon.

• The nine-story mall opened in 1988. Prominent former tenants include Nordstrom, Century Theatres and Bloomingdale's, all of which departed amid foot-traffic declines and public-safety concerns.

• The lender now controlling the mall took three of its last remaining businesses to court this month as part of an eviction push.

What's next: The closure means one of downtown's biggest plots of land may be up for a complete redesign, including development into a mixed-use project.
