Public-private partnerships key to SF's future, Segal says

What he's saying: "I think the strategy we need as a city moving forward is to be flexible," Segal told Axios SF reporter Nadia Lopez, noting that the business world traditionally moves faster than the government.

• "There are all kinds of safeguards" in place to ensure transparency around how city officials raise money, he said.
• "At the same time, it'd be a shame if we didn't take advantage of the opportunity to bring public and private capital to place-making opportunities," Segal added.

The big picture: The city is working to streamline office-to-housing conversions downtown and make the area more of a destination by obtaining more liquor licenses from the state and partnering with higher education, according to Segal.
