Videos capture clash between ICE and protesters

State of play: Since the Trump administration escalated immigration raids, ICE agents have been showing up at San Francisco's immigration court to arrest asylum seekers after their hearings.

• Video footage posted online shows anti-ICE protesters linking arms to form a chain in front of the entrance Tuesday morning as agents, almost all of whom had their faces covered, struggled to break through with batons and pepper spray.
• As agents escorted a handcuffed man out of the building, several protesters attempted to grab him but were shoved back. People then piled onto the SUV carrying the detainee, and one person fell off the hood as the vehicle pulled away.
• Mission Local reports that a uniformed ICE agent pointed a rifle at protesters and press while screaming "Get the f*ck back!" after the SUV exited.

The other side: "On July 8 protesters violently attacked and obstructed federal ICE officers who were simply doing their job by enforcing our nation's laws," a U.S. Department of Homeland Security spokesperson said in a statement to NBC Bay Area.

• "There is no tolerance for violence, and those responsible will be held accountable."
• ICE's SF field office did not immediately return a request for comment.

The big picture: ICE has arrested over 5,800 immigrants in California since President Trump took office in January — a 123% increase from 2024, a New York Times analysis found.

What we're watching: Lawmakers at the state and federal levels have introduced measures to bar ICE agents from wearing face coverings and operating anonymously.
